The Coal Authority's Electronic Forms

In order to continue to provide a secure service the Coal Authority’s permit application service will be applying stricter use of modern encryption. This will mean that some older browsers will be unable to connect as of the 30th November 2018. We recommend for your own security that you are running an up to date browser.

On Monday 12 November 2018 we will be making a change to the online permit application form, whereby each section of the form will need to be completed before allowing you to progress to the following section. This means that you will not be able to partly complete sections and return to them at a later date while continuing to complete other sections. You will, however, still be able to save your form and return to it from your ‘My Requests’ section of the site.

Fees for applications for permission to enter or disturb Coal Authority mining interests

Effective from 1st October 2018, all fees are inclusive of VAT

Fees are based upon the following:- the number of boreholes, the area of application or the number of mine entries to be investigated and/or treated.

The minimum fee for any application will be £111.00.

  • Area of the application (any number of shafts/adits within this area are included within the area fee). £111.00 per 0.1 hectare (1000 m2) up to a maximum of £2775.00 (for 2.5 ha or above).
